Roof Shrink Wrap Installation in South Florida
Heat-sealed, watertight, UV-resistant. Six to twelve months of real protection while you wait on a repair.
Or text us a photo of the damage — we can size the job from the picture.
A single watertight skin over your whole roof
Shrink wrap is a heavy industrial polyethylene film — far thicker than anything sold as a tarp — that we fit over the roof and then heat until it contracts. It pulls down tight against every slope, every valley and every edge. Seams are welded with heat, not taped, so there is no lap for water to find and no flapping corner for wind to grab.
The result is one continuous membrane. It does not have fastener holes in the middle of the field. It does not lift. It does not go brittle after six weeks of Florida sun, because the film is UV-stabilised for exactly this.
How we install it
- Assess and photograph. We get on the roof, find every place water is entering, and document the damage before we touch it.
- Prep and frame. Loose material comes off. Where a slope needs it, we build a batten framework so water runs off instead of ponding.
- Lay the film. Sheets are positioned with enough overlap at every joint to weld properly.
- Heat and shrink. Controlled heat pulls the film tight and welds the seams into one skin.
- Detail the edges. Perimeters, penetrations, vents and valleys are finished by hand. This is where a wrap either holds or fails, and it is the part that takes experience.
What we wrap
Residential roofs of every kind — shingle, tile, flat and mixed — plus open decks and unfinished structures on construction sites. If it has a roof that has to stay dry through storm season, the film does not care what shape it is.
How long it lasts
Six to twelve months. The honest range depends on exposure — a fully-sunlit south slope works harder than a shaded one — and on how much debris hits it. We tell you at the estimate which end of that range your roof sits at.
Insurance and claims
Florida policies generally require you to prevent further damage after a covered loss. That is the duty to mitigate, and it is why the call is urgent: damage that spreads because nothing was done can be argued out of a claim. We photograph before and after, write up the scope, and date everything, so the mitigation you paid for is on the file in a form an adjuster can use.
Why it beats a tarp
Both stop water. They do it for very different lengths of time. If your repair is weeks out — and in South Florida after a storm, it usually is — the wrap is the cheaper decision.
| Roof shrink wrap | Emergency roof tarp | |
|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 6–12 months of real protection | 30–90 days before it needs attention |
| Wind resistance | Heat-shrunk tight to the roof — nothing left loose to catch wind | Can lift or tear in high wind, especially at the edges |
| Water seal | Heat-sealed seams, genuinely watertight across the whole surface | Sheds water well; seams, laps and fastener points are the weak spots |
| UV performance | UV-resistant film, rated for months of Florida sun | UV-resistant too — built for weeks of exposure, not a whole season |
| Cost | Higher up front — it is an installed system, not a cover | Fast and cost-effective when you need coverage today |
| Best for | Long repair waits, insurance delays, hurricane season, anything you cannot re-do in 60 days | Immediate emergency cover, short waits, a repair already on the calendar |
Shrink wrap removal and reinstallation
A wrap is temporary by design, and at some point it has to come off. Sometimes for good, sometimes only so work can happen underneath.
When the permanent repair is ready to start, we come back and take the wrap off cleanly — film, seams, battens and fixings — so your roofer starts on a clear deck rather than working around our leftovers.
Where the job runs in phases, or the repair stops for weather, an inspection or a materials delay, the roof does not have to sit open in between. We can lift the wrap off the section being worked on and seal it back down afterwards, so the rest of the building stays covered while the work moves across it.
If someone else installed the wrap on your roof, we will still take it off. Call or text and tell us what is up there.

Roof shrink wrap — questions we get
How long does roof shrink wrap last?
Six to twelve months in South Florida conditions. The film is UV-stabilised and it is shrunk tight against the roof, so there is nothing loose for sun and wind to work on.
Is shrink wrap better than a tarp?
For anything longer than a few weeks, yes. A tarp is a cover held down by fasteners and weight — it sheds water and it works, but the edges and fastener points are where it eventually fails. Shrink wrap is heat-welded into a single continuous skin over the whole roof. If your repair is weeks or months out, the wrap is the cheaper decision. If you need cover today and the repair is already scheduled, a tarp is the right call and we install those too.
Will my insurance cover shrink wrap?
Most Florida policies make you responsible for preventing further damage after a covered loss — the duty to mitigate. Temporary protection is normally part of meeting that duty. We photograph the damage before we start, document the scope, and give you dated records your adjuster can put on the file. We cannot promise what any particular carrier will do, so confirm with your adjuster before you commit.
How fast can you install it?
Call or text us a photo and we will tell you what the job needs and what the schedule looks like. We are based in Miami Gardens, so Miami-Dade is where we can move quickest.
Does the wrap damage the roof underneath?
No. The film is shrunk to a timber or foam batten framework and heat-welded to itself, not to your roof covering. It comes off cleanly. The heat is directed at the film — an experienced installer never puts a gun on your shingles or tile.
